The Ebola virus keeps spreading and over 3,000 people have lost their lives in West Africa, the World Health Organization said Monday.

With no signs of the virus dying down, experts are reportedly scrambling to find a vaccine.

According to news reports, the WHO said that out of 3,091 death from the virus as of Sept. 23, the majority of 3,083 had occurred in West African countries, including Liberia and Guinea.

A total of 6,574 cases of Ebola have occurred at the time of the report, and the virus is said to be approaching the border of the Ivory Coast.

Reuters said that global pharmaceutical companies including Johnson & Johnson and Profectus Biosciences were moving into human trials for an Ebola vaccine and they hope to find remedy by the end of this year.
